How to create the perfect backdrop for your party
I've got an awesome tip to share with you guys today.
So this weekend I had the privilege of doing a shoot for the new collection under the watchful eye of a legend in the flower arranging game.
The lady in question handled the wedding flowers for many of the great musicians and actors in the 70s and 80s. Now, at the ripe old age of 95, she still has forgotten more than most of us will ever know about making truly spectacular scenery.
She also has a wicked sense of humour and a zest for life that is an inspiration to me.
Anyway, she taught me a couple of really neat tricks for transforming a space. The one I’m going to share with you is amazing if you need to create height and volume.
Build a bamboo pot. A bamboo what?
Check out the pictures below. This was an awesome, DIY trick that is super cheap and easy to do. You just put a sawn off piece of drain pipe in a 5 litre bucket. Have someone handy mix up and pour some concrete around the outside and let it set. This will create a heavy base, with an opening that you can stuff with 10ft tall bamboo canes.

Wrap the buckets in hessian sack, or some linen cloth, for a neutral rustic-style base.

These bamboo pots make striking features when stuffed with 5 or 6 healthy canes. Remember to cut the bamboo at the last minute, otherwise the leaves will start to curl in the middle of the party.

If you don’t have bamboo growing in your garden, you can fill the bucket with any other branches you’ve got. The goal is to arrange enough branches to form a small, but stunning, tree. They look great whether you use them as backdrop or brought to the front as a centre piece.
Whatever you decide, let us know how it turns out. Take a picture and tag us in it, @sashastable
